South West Trains, London

If you're in search of some seaside fun, or are ready to enjoy some quintessential English landscapes, you'll find the Waterloo rail station in London, England, is a key jumping-off point for multiple train routes to the southwestern region of the country. The South West Trains company (SWT), parent company Stagecoach South Western Trains Limited, has been awarded the franchise for rail routes to the Island of Wight and points throughout the southwest. The Waterloo Train Station not only connects to the London Underground lines of Bakerloo, Northern, City, Waterloo, and Jubilee; but also enables passengers to access rail service via London Waterloo East, making possible journeys to south-east London, East Sussex, and Kent.

Both distance travelers and commuters avail themselves of the South West Trains' services, which reach more than 200 stations throughout the southwestern region. SWT routes include access to Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire, Somerset, and Devon counties, as well as Greater London.

South West Trains Waterloo Station London Given Hampshire's location on the England's southern coast, it may not be surprising that this county is where the British Army, the Royal Navy, and the Royal Air Force each began their story of the country's defense. Tourists enjoy the many seaside resorts available on the coast, the national parks of South Downs and New Forest, and Beaulieu's motor museum. Hampshire's history is tied to the sea, with important port cities of Portsmouth and Southampton playing a part in the nation's history. Southampton has hosted such ships as the Mayflower and the Titanic; the Titanic was primarily staffed by Southampton natives. Literary luminaries Charles Dickens and Jane Austen were both born here; Austen would write all of her novels in this county.

South West Trains England The county of Dorset features the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, which is home to such landforms as Durdle Door, the Isle of Portland, Lulworth Cove, and Chesil Beach. Visitors also enjoy the seaside towns of Poole and Bournemouth. Thomas Hardy fans will recognize Dorset as the setting for most of the author's novels; he was born in county. The hill forts of Hod Hill and Maiden Castle are notable archaelogical sites.

Ancient history is also on display in the county of Wiltshire, where landmarks such as Stonehenge and the Avebury stone circles are found. The medieval cathedral at Salisbury is a prime example of early English architecture.

Somerset is a showcase of beautiful scenery, with both countryside and coastline vistas. Home to the Exmoor National Park, Somerset also offers long beaches and ocean-side activities. While visiting Somerset, be sure to sample two of its luscious exports: Cheddar cheese and apple cider.

With the English Channel on one side, and the Bristol Channel on the other, Devon not only attracts tourists with its coastal charm, but also draws visitors seeking its rural charm, mild weather, and historical towns and cities. For example, in 1588, English forces set sail from Plymouth to engage the attacking Spanish Armada; in 1620, Pilgrim Fathers left Plymouth for the New World, setting sail in the Mayflower. And Exeter is known for its cathedral, completed around 1400 AD.
