London Bridge, often confused with the spectacular Tower Bridge to the east is a non discrete bridge compared to other bridges crossing the River Thames.
Lacking in spectacular as bridges go, London Bridge makes up in history. The current bridge opened in 1973, yet a bridge has been in this spot since the Romans occupied London 2000 years ago. The first bridge was constructed in 50 AD and was the first to cross the River Thames. Over the years the London Bridge has been replaced thus taking the name.
London Bridge was the only bridge crossing the River Thames until the construction of Putney Bridge in 1729. Located to the west is Tower Bridge and to the east is Southwark Bridge
Today London Bridge joins the City of London on the north bank with the Southwark on the south bank of the River Thames.
Getting to London Bridge is conveniently located to London’s Underground.
Monument Station on the north bank is accessed via the Central, Circle, District, Waterloo, and Northern Lines
London Bridge Station on the south bank is accessed via the Jubilee as well as the Northern Line.
The London Bridge National Rail Station is also conveniently located in the Southwark Borough on the south bank of the River Thames.
