London’s third bridge to cross the River Thames, Blackfriars Bridge was completed in 1769, yet was replaced by the current bridge in 1869 due to faulty workmanship on the original bridge.
Designed by Thomas Cubitt, Blackfriars Bridge today is composed of 5 arches spanning 995 feet across the River Thames. The bridge is used for motor traffic (A201) and pedestrians.
Located between the Blackfriars Railway Bridge and Waterloo Bridge gives spectacular vies of the London skyline as well as St. Paul’s Cathedral.
Getting to Blackfriars Bridge via the underground will need to be from Temple Station or Monument on the north Bank via the Circle or District Line, Blackfriars underground is undergoing remodeling until 2011.
On the south bank either Southwark or London Bridge Station via the Jubilee Line.
